“The greatest of all happiness, next to divine happiness, is to be at peace with one’s immediate relations those with whom one must live every day in the year.  When people try to handle the extremely complicated machinery of human feelings without any training whatsoever, the results are disastrous.  Very few persons realize that most of our happiness lies in the art of understanding the law of human behavior.  This is why so many people are of “in hot water” with their friends, and, worse yet, at constant war with their own best beloved ones at home.”

So, you may be wondering after all these blogs about personal development if we actually have an academic program in our class.  Well, I’m glad you asked, because, in fact, we have a very strong academic foundation.  We just view it to be one part of many aspects of development.  When kids are happy and calm in the classroom, learning is easier, there is greater absorption, and creativity and “out of the box” thinking becomes part of your mental process.  I will teach 20+ different lessons on “Ways to Make 10” when learning addition and we will have 20+experiences in learning to share.  Over time, 2+8; 3+7; 1+9; 6+4 kind of becomes part of your body and drawing on that  knowledge is like walking.  In this same way, being able to share becomes part of who we are.  We have to practice something to become good at it.

Today we made “Energyometers”.  (Pictured above.) We can use them to begin discerning what kind of energy we are putting out and how to change it if needed.  I let each child choose their own color for the different types of energy: No energy (lethargic, contractive, downward pulling, doesn’t care one way or the other), Egoic Energy (Puts out energy, but only if it  pleases self), Light Energy (calmly active, expansive, energetic, enjoys helping others).

Afterwards the boys got into groups of two and made up skits portraying the different energies or how to change your energy from one level to another level.  Here are two boys performing for the class:
